IMPORTANT!!! General Meeting
All homeowners are strongly encouraged to attend the Annual General Meeting of the Los Paseos Homeowners Association, to be held on Wednesday, October 5th at 7 p.m. in the Clubhouse. The Board of Directors for the coming year will be elected at this time. Nominations may be mailed in, and will also be accepted from the floor.
Los Paseos Flea Market
Be sure to come by the Clubhouse on Saturday, October 1 between 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. for the annual Flea Market. Please hurry if you want to reserve a space for this year's event. Spaces are only $5.00 each, and need to be reserved in advance. Download the form from our website: www.geocities.com/[email protected] If you don't have enough treasures to set up a booth, stop in and browse-you're sure to find something you can't pass up!
Bunco Night
The monthly Bunco night at the Clubhouse will be held on Thursday, October 12th this month. Jen Holst has some great prizes for the winners, and there's lots of fun and laughter. You don't need a partner to play-come alone, or bring friends from outside the neighborhood. Bunco is an easy to learn dice game , and you'll be able to eat snacks, spend time with old friends, and meet new ones. Call Jen if you'd like to bring a special treat for the group, or if you have any questions. (629-2807)
President's Message
I'm writing this message to you on September 21st, the first day of fall. With the change in the seasons, we will see changes in our schedule. First of all, the swim season will be at an end. Then, as we move into fall and winter, we'll see the activities at our Clubhouse venue move from a "fun in the sun" focus to events such as the Flea Market, Halloween Party, and the Holiday Craft Fair.
We'll be saying goodbye to our staff of Lifeguards and Gate Attendants, and we wish them well. To show our appreciation and thank them for their hard work, and for overseeing another safe summer, we're treating them to an employee thank you dinner.
With the end of Water Aerobics, new exercise activities are under discussion. One possibility is Salsa Aerobics.
Be sure to read the Que Paso or visit our website at www.geocities.com/[email protected] to stay informed about all of the upcoming activities.
Please make an effort to attend the annual General Meeting on October 5th at 7:00 p.m. at the Clubhouse. Board elections will be held at this meeting, and it's your opportunity to participate in the Los Paseos community by voting or by becoming a member of the Board of Directors. We need your expertise and talents on the Board, so don't be shy. If you'd like to nominate someone to run for a position, call the office at 224-9980 or send an e-mail to [email protected] to submit your nomination.
Until next month-
Tim Nemeth, Your Board President
Shopping Carts
What is even more unsightly than litter dropped on our Paseo or in the park? Abandoned shopping carts! PLEASE do not bring carts into the neighborhood when you walk to Albertson's or Nob Hill. If you notice an abandoned grocery cart on the Paseo or on your street, please call the store from which it came, and let the manager know. Both of the stores have services that are responsible for corralling their carts, and they need to know that their vendors are making the daily rounds to collect the wayward carts.
Call Albertson's at 578-6268 and Nob Hill at 226-0203.
Meanwhile, continue to bring along a bag and pick up litter on the Paseo and the paths through the park while you stroll through the community. Make Los Paseos a neighborhood of which we can be proud.
Association Website/E-Mail
Did you know that your Los Paseos Association has a website? The address is www.geocities.com/[email protected]. The site contains current information such as our social calendar, forms to download, and other helpful information.
Occasionally , we send out additional information about special community meetings or issues that may come up. If you'd like to be added to the Los Paseos Association e-mail, contact us at [email protected]. If you want your name removed from this e-mail list, please reply with your request.
2nd Annual Holiday Arts & Crafts Fair
The Second Annual Holiday Arts & Crafts Fair will be held on Saturday, December 3rd at the Clubhouse. It's sure to be even bigger and better than last year. The fee is still only $10.00, and there are a few spaces left. Download the form from our website: www.geocities.com/[email protected] Clubhouse Rentals
Clubhouse Rentals
The Clubhouse is a perfect location for parties. Whether you're planning a holiday get-together, a wedding reception, birthday or anniversary party, family reunion or a shower, consider using the Los Paseos Clubhouse for your event.
We have plenty of tables and chairs and a functioning kitchen available for your use. The most desirable dates book up early, so call now to schedule your holiday party.
Labor Day at the Pool
A number of families, along with their guests, came out to enjoy Labor Day activities at the Pool. Rolling back time, the Board President, Tim Nemeth, barbecued and served hotdogs, chips, drinks and cookies for the old-fashioned price of one dollar! The fun really began when Gate Attendant Will announced the first game-the Rubber Ducky Relay! Lifeguard Kevin used his expertise to judge the Biggest Splash Contest. That was followed by the Tennis Ball Toss and, for the grand finale, the Inner Tube Relay. Gate Attendant Kevin added to the excitement with his professional announcer's voice, and everyone had a great and safe time under Lifeguard JP's watchful eye. It was a terrific wrap-up to another wonderful Los Paseos swim season. The pool may stay open for a few more weekends, but every kid knows that this was the official end of summer, because school has started again!
Garbage Pick Up/Large Item Pick up
All garbage bins, recycle containers and yard debris carts are to be stored out of sight in side or back yards. Receptacles are to be in the street only 24 hours in advance of or following pick up. A CC&R violation letter will be issued if carts are left out beyond a 24-hour period, or if they are stored in the front yard or the driveway.
Large items may be disposed of by calling Recycle Plus at 227-2700. They will haul away 3 items for $23.00 or up to 6 items for $46.00
To dispose of hazardous waste, including old paint, pesticides, fluorescent lamps and other items, call 229-7300 to schedule a free drop-off appointment.
Planning to Remodel, Paint or Landscape?
If you're considering making any major changes to your house or property, remember that you must submit a Home Project Form to the homeowners association for approval. If your project requires a building permit, you'll need to provide the City of San Jose with an approved Home Project Form before they will issue your permit. You may obtain the form from the office, or download it from the website at www.geocities.com/[email protected].
In addition, we have approved exterior paint colors on file in the office.
Tree Removal and Pruning
Routine maintenance, such as trimming dead or low hanging branches on trees in your yard or on the parkway strip is not a problem. However, if you wish to remove a tree, or make significant changes to a mature tree, a permit is required. This is not only stipulated in the CC&Rs, but is mandated by law. Permits are free, and you may call (408) 277-2762 to obtain one. The penalty for proceeding without a permit is $1,000.00, plus the cost of replacing the damaged or removed tree, under the supervision of the City Arborist.
The Book Ends
One of our local book clubs, the Book Ends, most of whom live in the neighborhood, were excited to have the author of our most selection attend our last meeting. Kathryn Madison, author of "Woman's Sigh, Wolf's Song," joined us and answered questions about her book. Kathy, formerly an IBM employee, shared her extensive knowledge of wolves and their reintroduction into Yellowstone National Park. Her book blends human drama with the animals' story. The depth of her passion for, and experience with wolves impressed all of us. You may check out her website, www.kathrynmadison.com to learn more about this book as well as the sequel, which deals with killer whales.
If you're interested in joining our book club, call Janice Faulstich (224-0638) for more information.
