Subj: Roadwork in the Santa Teresa Hills From: [email protected] I know this is an Almaden Valley issue, but we share the same hills. Does anyone know what going on with all the construction in the Santa Teresa Hills on the Almaden Valley side? If you go along the Los Alamitos Trail from Almaden Lake, you'll see a new dirt road cut into the hillside. The dirt road ends at a driveway at the end of Winfield. Is this going to be for public access? At the moment, it's not fenced off, so you can physically access it, but I don't know if it's legal. Farther along the creek trail at the southwest corner of Crossview Circle, you'll see some heavy equipment and piles of cut wood next to the PG&E access road. What's going on here? Are they preparing the PG&E road for a public trail? Maybe this is wishful thinking. The Santa Teresa Hills northwest of Santa Teresa Park are crisscrossed by PG&E access roads, private ranch roads, and the Coyote-Alamitos Canal. Are there any plans to open any of these up to public access? (I know lots of people already use the levee road along the canal, but I don't think it's technically legal.) Wouldn't it be great to be able to hike or bike through the hills from Santa Teresa Park all the way to Almaden Lake and the Alamitos Creek Trail? The recreational value would be tremendous, and it would benefit the thousands of people who live near the Santa Teresa Hills. Ron Horii |
