This is part of NPR's "california report". I heard the abridged version ths AM and it was excellent. For example, we are told that Asthma is on the rise in california, especially among minorities, children, in inner city neighborhoods.

In California last year,

• 2 million people suffer from Asthma,
• 1/2 million of which are children,
• 5000 die nationally from asthma each year!
