Subj: Re: Dist. 2 "Advisory Committee" From: [email protected] (Mendoza, Andrew) cc: [email protected] (Powers, Charlotte) Q: Just so everyone understands: What is the difference between a "task force" and an "advisory committee"? Why make a distinction? Is one more binding than the other? A: AS PER CITY STAFF (KENT EDEN'S AND OTHERS), THE TERM "TASK FORCE" WITHIN THE CITY IS USED WHEN THE MAYOR AND/OR CITY MANAGER/ADMIN. OFFICIALLY APPROVE AND LEAD THE CHARGE OF A TASK FORCE FOR A PROJECTS/ISSUES (E.G., REDEVELOPMENT TF, LIBRARY TF, EDUCATION TF, ETC.). TO REMAIN IN LINE WITH THE CITY PROCESS AND COMMUNITY WE WERE ADVISED AND AGREED TO GO WITH "ADVISORY COMMITTEE." LASTLY, THE NORMAL PROCESS FOR SUCH PROJECTS IN OTHER COUNCIL DISTRICT'S (COUNCIL OFFICES)IS TO ALSO USE THE "ADVISORY COMMITTEE" TERM. OVERALL, A CITY TASK FORCE IS MAINLY STAFFED BY CITY ADMIN. VS. AN "ADVISORY COMMITTEE" WHICH IS MAINLY STAFFED BY A COUNCIL DIST. OFFICE. AS YOU MAY KNOW, CHARLOTTE HAS HAD SEVERAL ON-GOING ADVISORY COMMITTEE'S FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS (E.G., BUSINESS, EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE). THANK YOU! ANDREW |
