Subj: Calpine power plant feedback From: [email protected] (Tim Alton) with respect to Cammi Bowen's suggestion that older plants be directly replaced: Duke Energy propose upgrading the Moss Landing plant, by reducing the current plant emissions by 85% using the kind of scrubbers Calpine propose for their Metcalf site. They also propose to add 1200MW of capacity using the same new technology as the Calpine plant. This will run through existing wires to Metcalf PG&E substation. They forecast that 800MW of new capacity will be available at Metcalf PG&E substation. This is more than the Calpine plant would provide and creates no extra emissions in our valley. This is the kind of action I regard as community friendly, rather than using a non industrial, green field site, in the last area of San Jose to be developed. I think everyone has hopes for better things than this in Coyote. Tim Alton |
