From what I heard at the Bechtel/Capline presentation at Martin Murphy:
1. It's cheap for Calpine because it is at the intersection of Gas and Power lines
2. It's good for the bay area as a whole due to the new cleaner technology replacing older plant.
3. It's heavy industry in an industrial (r&d campus) zone
4. They had never heard of the Fairchild debacle!
5. The CEO was quoted in the SJMN as seeing no major opposition to the plant!
My conclusion:
It has no direct benefit for local residents that we cannot get, if it is located in a heavy industrial zone where power lines and gas pipes intersect, anywhere in the bay area. And I just have to believe these sites exist.
It would have greater environmental benefits if it was located outside the bay area and caused local power plants to shutdown.
Right plant wrong location, create a stink now before it's too late.
