Subj: Well, What About the Cisco Power Plant From: [email protected] (Richard Williams) I find it very curious that this board did not erupt in hand wringing outrage over the news that Cisco is thinking about putting a 48 MW to 60 MW power plant that most likely will emit NOx at over twice the rate that the Metcalf Energy Center would at its proposed Coyote Valley mega-campus. http://www0.mercurycenter.com/local/center/enron0202.htm as modified by http://www0.mercurycenter.com/premium/local/docs/setrecs03.htm . If this plant is a run-of-the-mill simple cycle gas turbine, then it will also use 25% to 30% more natural gas per megawatthour than Metcalf as well. This is going to be only a little further away from the Santa Teresa neighborhood (and closer to son of NIMBY-ville Morgan Hill) than Metcalf will be. Practically every Metcalf bashing commenter on this board has allied themselves with the Cisco behemoth. Now, like Frankenstein, it has turned on its creators. Betrayal is never pretty. Cisco has shown that it is only out to make a buck and it will therefore pursue its own self centered interests no matter how it much it endangers the environment, straight jackets traffic, and contributes to leapfrog suburban sprawl. Cisco will implement its profit making goals even if it means turning on its friends when it has no more use for them. How do you all feel now? Richard Williams |
