On the morning of Thursday February 21, between 6:30 and 7:00, I put two pieces of mail in our mailbox in front of our home on Curie Dr near Woosley. One was a bill payment with a check in it. When my husband left for work around 8:45, he noticed that the mailbox was open, but didn't check it. When we got home around 12:30, we checked and the mail was gone even though the mail carrier had not picked the mail up yet. My husband notified the bank and closed the checking account, but when the statement came, we found that the person had altered the check and cashed it for way more than it was written for. This was a trash day so the garbage truck and recycle truck came between the time the mail was put out and my husband noticed the mailbox open.

Please be careful about putting checks in your mailbox.
