Subj: Police Dragnet on Bernal From: [email protected] Hi - I was recently pulled over and issued a speeding ticket that I think was unjust. It happened 01/07/03 in front of Jack in the Box on Bernal and San Ysidro. I'm driving down the road, having just merged on Bernal from Monterey when I look in front of me and this guy is standing in the middle of the road flagging me down to pull into the parking lot. I wasn't the only car driving down Bernal at the time. I was in a group of cars and was not leading the pack. I guess I must have been the only stupid one to stop. There must have been 5-6 cars lined up in front of me getting tickets and as many Joe Friday motorcycle cops mulling around in the fast food parking lot waiting to get their turn on the next group of suckers. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I was already going slow as half the road was coned off due to landscapers doing work on the median. As I was driving away I looked in my rear-view mirror and saw another cop, in the middle of the road, stopping about 20 cars dead in the street and singling out a couple cars. Long story short, I plan to fight the ticket but was wondering if anyone else got caught up in this blatant misuse of tax dollars. I also plan to e-mail the mayor and the Police Dept. questioning their tactics... Dan |
