Subj: ESUHSD Librarian Cuts
From: [email protected] (Launa Carlson)

At the April 8th meeting of the East Side Union High School District's Board of Trustees, the recommendation of Superintendent Zendejas to cut all librarians from the district's eleven high schools and one continuation school was approved by the Board. Since the California State Legislature has poured more than two and a half million dollars into the district's libraries over the past three years, it seems particularly short-sighted to deny the staff and students of the district's schools access to these updated books and materials next fall. At the present time, every school in the district employs a fulltime librarian possessing a special library media teaching credential in addition to the regular credential, and in many cases a Master's Degree.

Because the action of the Board violates several articles of the contract presently in place, the East Side Teachers Association, bargaining unit for certificated employees, will be acting to try to save these librarian jobs.

If you are concerned that staff and students will not have access to a high school library next year, please email your concerns to the superintendent at [email protected] or to the Board at #[email protected]
