While looking through California State Senator Sher's Legislation at
http://www.sen.ca.gov/sher/ I found this resolution:

SR 14 Relative to Clean Power Month.
INTRODUCED BY Senator Sher
MAY 18, 1999

Relative to Clean Power Month

HOUSE OR SENATE RESOLUTIONS DO NOT CONTAIN A DIGEST

WHEREAS, The State of California deregulated its electricity market in 1998; and

WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of California is committed to environmental protection; and

WHEREAS, California generates the majority of its electricity from coal, fossil, large hydropower, and nuclear generation; and

WHEREAS, Coal, fossil, large hydropower, and nuclear generation are not renewable resources and can significantly harm the environment; and

WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of California deems renewable resources as those causing the least amount of damage to the environment; and

WHEREAS, Electricity market deregulation offers consumers the ability to choose their electricity provider; and

WHEREAS, Consumer choice is a powerful tool for citizens to push the market toward cleaner, renewable resource generation; and

WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of California supports educating the public on electricity deregulation; and

WHEREAS, Clean Power Day is June 19, 1999; and

WHEREAS, Clean Power Day is a public education event to teach citizens about renewable resources and provides the opportunity for consumers to choose an electricity provider; now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, That the Senate recognizes the month of June 1999 as Clean Power Month in the State of California to raise public awareness of electricity resources and consumer choice.
