Subj: Calpine energy plant From: [email protected] BTW, I believe the Newark Calpine plant might be sited at the Cargill plant site off Central Avenue in Newark. Either that or the parking lot of NewPark Mall!!! Cargill has the necessary land available and would not need to shut any of it's facility for Calpine. The City of Newark is drooling over tax revenue Calpine would provide. For now the city and Calpine do not want to disclose possible location to avoid community backlash. In recent discussions with a rep from PG&E, the company is interested in
promoting renewable energy and making business and industry energy
efficient so these plants like Calpine is proposing will not be necessary.
I believe the air pollution issue will be important. Especially with more
development planned the cumulative impacts will be significant. The
article I quoted from also stated that some of the plants "may also trigger
offset requirements for reactive organics (ROG), particulates (PM10), or
sulfer oxides (SOX)." I'll keep you posted on Newark events. Margaret Lewis |
