Subj: Drunk Driver Crashes @ Avenida Espana/Downs Drive Tonight a drunk driver traveling at a high rate of speed down Avenida Espana crashed through the fence and into the backyard of the house at the corner of Downs Drive. Fortunately nobody was injured or killed in this accident as there are children who live in and around the house where the accident occurred. San Jose Police arrested the driver for driving under the influence of alcohol after he failed a field sobriety test. Witnesses reported seeing a female passenger running from the scene of the accident. According to neighbors in the area, another drunk driver had crashed into the fence of a nearby house along Avenida Espana not long ago. Most agreed it is time to see what can be done to reduce the speed of vehicles traveling along Avenida Espana. One suggestion is to install stop signs at Downs and Avenida Espana and other key intersections along Avenida Espana to slow the traffic flow. If you live in the area, please contact Councilmember Forrest Williams at (408) 277-4282 to ask for his help in addressing this important problem. |
